Listening beyond the human

Ching Lam Choi, an AI researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is one of the six finalists of our Scientists for Nature Challenge 2026: A Quantum Leap for Biodiversity. Ching Lam presented at the 75th Anniversary Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.

Ching Lam's research explores how artificial intelligence can help us better understand and protect biodiversity by listening to nature from the perspective of wildlife rather than humans. By combining AI, ecoacoustics, ecology, and engineering, her work seeks to transform how noise pollution is measured and mitigated, creating new opportunities to protect habitats, inform biodiversity-sensitive policies and infrastructure, and better safeguard the wellbeing of wildlife and ecosystems.
